What is a Singing Bowl?

Tibetan singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, rin gongs or suzu gongs are a type of bell, specifically classified as a standing bell. The sides and rim of singing bowls vibrate to produce sound characterized by a fundamental frequency (1st harmonic) and usually two audible harmonic overtones (the 2nd and 3rd harmonic).

Singing bowls are played by striking the rim of the bowl with a padded mallet. They can also be played by creating friction by rubbing a wooden or leather wrapped mallet around the rim of the bowl, like creating a ringing tone from a crystal glass.

Singing bowls produce a sound and vibration that can be felt physically and can have a calming effect on your body, mind and spirit.
